Parents are their children’s best advocates and through RYASAP’s Parent
Leadership Training Institute, created by the Connecticut Commission on
Children, parent graduates are equipped with a democracy tool kit and skills to improve the life-long health, safety and learning of their children.
PLTI is a community collaborative that has been embedded in the community via a partnership with the Parent Center. The civic design team has expanded this family civics initiative over the last 15 years to include the Children’s Leadership Training Institute (CLTI), Teen Leadership Institute (TLI) and People Empowering People (PEP). PEP is offered in Spanish and engages members in the development and implementation of group community projects. Alumni are continually informed and engaged in leadership opportunities regarding education, health, and safety throughout the community.
Parent graduates enhance their ability to speak out on issues, inform policy makers, the media and others. Parent graduates also put their passion into action via individual community projects designed to have positive outcomes.
