RYASAP’s Healthy Communities programs address an ever-changing world of risky behaviors. Youth and their parents are confronted with underage drinking, tobacco, marijuana, prescription drugs, gambling all the while working on their true self. With the support of the RYASAP Prevention Council and our local prevention councils, our schools and other community groups have joined the efforts in learning more about our youth’s assets and how they play a crucial part in healthy decision making.

Prevention & Wellness

RYASAP’s Prevention Council

RYASAP’s Prevention Council is comprised of representatives from the six local prevention councils, community stakeholders and service providers. The Council provides workshops and trainings throughout the year to enhance the programs being held in each town.

RYASAP’s Teen Yellow Pages

RYASAP’s Teen Yellow Pages is a bi-annual publication that provides community resources for youth in the Greater Bridgeport area. Distributed in booklet form with accompanying key tags, work is currently underway to develop an advanced website with APP access.

RYASAP’s annual Graphic Design event

RYASAP’s annual Graphic Design event has expanded its efforts beyond tobacco to now include alcohol, prescription drugs, marijuana and gambling. All submissions from students K-College will be recognized in a regional Prevention Graphics Celebration. Towns will then adopt the artwork for use in their local prevention initiatives.

RYASAP’s One Voice Suicide Prevention

RYASAP’s One Voice Suicide Prevention program offers two types of trainings to colleges and communities. QPR: Question, Persuade and Refer is a 60-90 minute training for all ages that introduces the concept of “gatekeeping.” CONNECT – is a community or school based process that brings together key stakeholders into a work group. During the 4-hour training, the participants will build on QPR and move into a hands-on role-play that will assist them in assessing their readiness to move into a system-wide project.

RYASAP’s Training Programs

RYASAP’s Training Programs continue to expand. Prescription Drugs for Coaches and Parents, STEP Tobacco Education and TATU – Teens Against Tobacco Use are among the current offerings.
