RYASAP’s Safe Neighborhoods AmeriCorps Partnership is a national community service program that joins individuals (ages 17 to 60) for a year of service, with non-profit agencies in Bridgeport. Our members strengthen children and youth’s resiliency skills and reduce crime, violence and fear in the City of Bridgeport. In the 2004-2005-program year, the following agencies are hosting AmeriCorps members:
Habitat for Humanity, Southend Community Center –Stratford, The Witness Project, International Performing Arts Center, International Institute, American Red Cross, Southwest Community Health Center, City of Bridgeport - Office of Planning and Economic Development, Junior Achievement, Mutual Housing Association of Southwestern Ct., Parent Center, Public Allies and Safe Homes.
AmeriCorps members receive a small living allowance and an educational award. The Educational award can be used at any college or university in the United States or can pay off an existing student loan. For full time service (37.5 hrs/wk for 45 weeks) a member receives a $10,197 living allowance and a $4,725 educational award. For part-time service (20hrs/wk for 45 weeks) the living allowance is $4,589 with a $2,362.50 educational award.

SNAP Safe homes members work in partnership with the Bridgeport Police Department and the Bridgeport Fire Department in enhancing home security for senior citizens, physically challenged residents, and others in Bridgeport neighborhoods. The Safe Homes members provide the following services and equipment at no charge:
Home security assessment and installation of deadbolts, window pins, smoke detectors, peepholes, and outdoor motion light sensors.
